Style, Decor & More: An Enjoyable Spring Break Vacation!

An Enjoyable Spring Break Vacation!

It’s that time of the year again, Spring Break! Time to take that long awaited vacation, lie on a pristine beach beneath a clear blue sky, and take one week of relaxation away from school and work. But even when everything is beautiful, the smallest imperfection can make one yearn for home and normality. To make your trip more enjoyable, as well as functional, here are some simple tricks:

Bring your own products. Often times a nice hotel or resort will provide the essentials: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, lotion, etc; however, these freebies can produce a less than desirable effect than your personal product. Packing your favorite brand in smaller plastic or glass bottles will keep you looking and feeling your best, as well as save space in your luggage by not including the super saver bottle! You can easily label each bottle for organization, as well as decorate a set as an inexpensive gift for a travel partner.

Take along your own drinks. Let’s face it, unless you are staying at an all-inclusive resort, drinks can run a high bill on any vacationer’s tab. Even water can be very expensive and while out in the sun, you run a higher risk of dehydration. By drinking plenty of water, you not only combat dehydration, but keep your skin healthy and nourished as well.

If you prefer a cocktail while relaxing, why not try making your own drink. By bringing along personalized glass or plastic bottles (which can be filled with other amenities for travel purposes) and making a quick stop at the airport duty free, you will be guaranteed that there will not be drink mix-ups and your beverage will be made to your exact specifications.

Bring the vacation to you. Perhaps this is not the best time to take a week-long time out from your hectic life. Instead, why not throw a beach themed event. You can send invitations as a personalized “message in a bottle” for each invitee or simply listen to the sounds of the ocean over a delicate arrangement of candles.

Whether it’s a week away from it all or one special night of leisure and relaxation, sometimes that’s all it takes to make the coming week easier.

  1. I'm always looking for ways to streamline packing and saving money on vacation...and these are really great ideas! I take an empty plastic bottle in my purse/carry-on with a packet of powdered drink mix when flying. Buying drinks at the airport can be expensive, especially when travelling with your family, but water fountains are abundant! Fill the plastic bottle with water and empty in a packet of drink mix...and I'm ready to go!

  3. Great tips! Bottled water is so expensive - it just makes sense to bring plastic or reusable bottles and fill them up as you go!

  6. This is a really nice post! I just found a full time job so I will be working hard while my kids are on break but I am happy to be making money :) I will have to take a weekend day and do your "Bring the Vacation to You" suggestion for sure :) Maybe Chicago will have a warm enough day that I can lay in the son for a bit to get some much needed Vitamin D Rays :)

  23. Excellent ideas! I especially like the idea of bringing my own "drinky-poos"!!! Another thing I do is save up all of my freebie samples, and I don't ever have to buy travel sizes of shampoos/conditioners/toothpastes/lotions, or laundry detergents! ;)

  30. We traveled to the mountains last year and gotta add to your byo drinks tips-for some places u want to bring your own groceries-A weeks work of groceries cost us 4xs the amount it normally costs us at home for lesser quality food-All because my hubby didnt want to take up extra room in the van or take unneccessaries.Next time we will lose our foot space and save at least $150 in food cost

  31. Excellent tips, I've never taken a resort vacation (not counting Disney), and the $ saving tips are very helpful. I also like the idea of an at home relaxation vacation-less chance of things going wrong, and I'm a homebody anyway. Thanks for the great post!
